Hi

I am trying to draw the following thing:
A lipid membrane but some lipid molecules are connected by helices or
springs.
I tried to do it but it is not impressive. If anyone tried this before (it
seems tedious)
could he share his code with me and I will mention his name in my paper.
Basically it is made of many sheets (like a cloth . gray let's say)
every cloth has lipids molecule attached to it. and the top layer made of
lipids
connected by springs. not periodically but randomly.

I am attaching an image done with povray but by someone else (it is in
grayscale) and another image
which shows the cut of the membranes with the lipids shown in blue. I cannot
attach two files. I will send another email later with the other
attachment.

ciao

I think i wil have a different approch for your image.

- I will made less turns for your helices
- i saw on your image 2 kind of spring and helices ...how do you distinguish
them ..?
- did you membrane really needed.. if not think about a some kind of see
(membrane with a volume)..

There is no problem in making less turns.
Well I drew springs because the software I was using
is not that great (illustrator). That image is just an illustration
The spring are supposed to be replaced by helices.
Yes the membrane is needed unless we make a lot of spheres that would make
a sheet
what do you mean by membrane with a volume

regards

Is this the sort of thing you're looking for?
http://hsb.iitm.ac.in/~jm/ARCHIVES/Jan-Feb04/articles_files/blood_files/rbc-em1.png
or are you looking to show a bilayer?

Nope
Actually an image like that is all over the places.
I am making my own stuff. Actually I am almost there.
I am modeling a red blood cells with
some missing links (helices) between the lipids (spheres).
here what i am working on.
yellow are the headgroups.
red is the aliphatic tail
the blue is water between two bilayers.
Now I have to draw helices between almost half of the top
spheres, because as I said it is a blood cell with missing links

cheers
