After seeing Bill Pragnell's excellent CGSphere entry I took a look at the
site and saw how far people are willing to push the 'rules'. Unable to
think of a decent original idea (not much hope of that) I passed my time
making this image, is this pushing the rules too far :-)

I am not really going to submit this one to CGSPhere it was just something
to pass the time and another chance to use my train model as I have been
too lazy to model any carriages or create another scene for it yet..

That looks great -- honestly. I really like it. But just to be nit-picky, I 
don't see it as being close enough to a sphere.

This is great! What a model!!
As everybody  at CGSphere expects to see a sphere, one can easily imagine 
it. Imo, you are within the rules... and artistic licence!

Thanks, I agree about the sphere, I have another idea which I am working on
and this one does contain a more spherical shape also I have not seen a
similar one so far on CGSPhere although there are a lot of images so I
could have missed it..

Thanks Thomas, although having viewed the train from this angle I think I
have missed out joining one of the parts to the body of the engine.. I
actually started modelling this with a view to animate it and the wheel's
can be made to turn etc.. However, as I know very little about trains it is
probably not very realistic..

I did see some CGSphere entries that did not have sphere's but either
cylinders/circles and although I still like the look of them as they were
great images I did think they were stretching the rules a bit.. Maybe I
will enter this one after I have entered a genuine sphere, don't want to
break the rules with my first entry..

I haven't really adjusted the lighting from the default in the template file
but the dirty texture makes it look pretty dark, here is a cleaner one which
shows a bit more detail. I have not finished the model yet so the textures
are a bit rough.

Nice train wheel!

And "CGSphere entry" sounds like a CG Sphere contest.... what is it?  Where
is it?  How do I enter?

I think this is looking really good for a CGSphere entry.  I wouldn't worry too much
about the
rules, they're meant to be broken.  ;-)

Are you planning to lay a length of track?  I think it would be a good addition to the
final render.
