Mesh based boulder created via John VanSickle's rock macros. I was always
kind of impressed by
http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/sneakpeek/boulder.html and wished I
could get that terragen rock "look" into POV. Didn't really achieve it here
(for a number of reasons), but it was fun anyway.

that's very nice!

but (always a but :))
shouldn't the moss (sp?) be on top of the surface instead of "embedded"
into the rock?

Wow! That's a nice boulder! I think you have already exceeded Terragen
quality. This is really nice.

It does give that appearence, although I thought I might get away with it.
My
intention was to have the lichens kind of curl up at the edges, but instead
the appearence is that the whole lichen becomes depressed into the rock.

If I can straighten out the code, I'll try a couple of different approaches
to the surface texture to see if it is possible to resolve the issue.

I really wish I had some sort of GUI like WorldMachine for building up
textures - it's a real challange for me keeping it all straight in SDL and
in my head!

More or less inverted the bumps on the lichen texture to get rid of the
depression effect. Also generally made the overall roughness a little more
agressive.

much better than the first attempt, which was a much better rock than
anything I did for myself.
Hope, you'll post the code!

Excellent! I kind of liked the first one because I know moss likes to
grow in damp recesses, but this looks somewhat better.

I sort of like the first one better too, not sure why though.
