Yeah, the "washed-out" look has something to do with the amount of specular
reflection and roughness. I'll probably need to tweak it a bit more before
I'm satisfied. Also, there is a glow around the opening that tends to wash
out the texture a bit.
Thanks for the tip on the symbols. That will be easy enough to fix, and it
will add some more authenticity. I've noticed that there is some evolution
of the stargate design (especially the chevrons) from earlier episodes
(probably a physical model) to the cooler CG one they use in the intro now.
