Just a few more things to add: the base, already designed, a scale on the
celestial equator, and Zodiac glyphs on the band of the ecliptic. The
radiosity is still a little flat, but I think just decreasing the
brightness and bumping up reflection off the brass will fix that. 'Still
need a cool place to display it. Maybe a room like in Albrecht Durer's
"St. Jerome in his Study." Light streaming through mullioned windows,
alchemist's glassware, and lots of dark wood and cushions. Suggestions?

Did you use a modeler, or Povray SDL? Very nice, either way.

Thank you. Entirely in SDL with no includes. Render just over 10 hours,
but I hope to reduce that with some fine tuning of the adaptive sampling.

Looking nice, Lonnie, but use a font that won't give you slashed zeroes, or
use the letter 'O'. You might want to boost brilliance on your brass: have
a look at the range in metals.inc.

I tried for quite some time to get a boost in the overall brightness of my
brass. I turned off radiosity and there it was. It seems that a really
brilliant metallic finish with the radiosity required I turn DOWN
brilliance to about .6 and raise diffuse. I gave up on fonts - going to
use height_fields for all my lettering.
