There is no light in this scene. I am sure that it could be more accurate or
better in some way but POVRay does produce a very good image with
radiosity. I spent the last bit looking for another rendering engine that
provided for objects to be lights. I did not find another program that
would do this or that would do it as easy as povray.

I love the basic concept of it: light sources and objects are basically 
the same. Any objecy can emit light - no need to specify point light 
arrays etc. There is no need to define different radiosity, light or 
photon settings and the outcome is quite stunning.

The problem is that: it is quite slow. The other problem is that SDL is 
not described anywhere and the modeler is also quite limited at this 
stage. I think one can use Blender, for example, though.

Another renderer that does this is Maxwell (http://www.maxwellrender.com). 
However it's not free and still in alpha phase. These techniques seem to 
share several characteristics: awesome results when properly used, long 
render times to get rid of graininess.

Agreed! Radiosity in POV is great, and your image shows it off very well.

I looked at winosi and I liked some of how it worked but when you add more
light objects winosi seems to average all the light out. It would be neat
to see a patch of povray with the winosi engine.

What do you mean by this? "Average all the light out"? Can you post a 
sample image or sample scene?
