I am currently running a long rendering on my primary PC. It is a
cylindrical projection...thought I would try out PTViewer.
So...I have been working on textures and reworking some of the older parts
to give them softer edges and more realistic textures. Having a back up lap
top comes in handy some times. :)
There are 3 textures that I am working on in this image. the first is the
wood painted tan. I wanted it to show some age and discoloration...but not
too much.
The second is the aged and slightly rusted black painted Iron.
Last of all is the varnished wood showing on the pump handle. I am trying to
get that varnished wood look that you only see on wood that has been
exposed to the weather for a while.
As textures are my real weekness, I would very much appreciate any
criticism, comments and suggestions that you might have.
Thanks,
Tim

My first feeling is that they need some normals. Everything just looks too
flat and smooth. Especially the rounded edges, they would have some dings
and nicks in them. The metal might have some very small normals to it too.

Like Ross said, normals would be required here. Also, I think that the
attachment of the rings to the pump handle is to smooth. It is metal
to/through wood and I think that you would see some edge there, i.e. the
hole in the wood would be very slightly larger than the metal ring.
Another thing perhaps, the paint looks very new. Maybe some chipping of the
wood or rust on the metal?
