Hi dear povers,

Since last post, I changed again CSG, and I think I succeed to place
secondary vaults in the way I saw them in Istanbul.

The scene is rendered with simplified light to have fast render time; and
with some "debug" objects.

I used ultra_wide_angle camera and the result seems better, what is your
opinion?

I need now to finish the structure because the arcs and vaults designed
previously do not fit in the building now. :o(

constructed:

With something this complex, my suggestion would be to declare groups of objects
that make up the different areas of the mosque (for example, column, centre
dome, mid half dome, lower outer dome, back wall, back wall centre windows) so
that you can hide all areas except the one you want to work on.  This will
greatly increase the test render time and allow you to concentrate on detailing
each particular area in turn.

Also, I'd suggest experimenting with changing the aspect of your image.  Right
now the ratio is 5x4; maybe it would look more dramatic if you made it something
like 2x3 (taller than it is wide).

Err... I meant speed, not time.  It would be quite bad if it greatly increased

May I suggest a little more research on the structure?
From your notes I take this to be a model of the Sultan Ahmed Mosque in 
Instanbul.
This is well covered in Wikipedia

which gives a bunch of reference pictures including several of the 
interior - not quite so blue!

Thank you for your comment, and for the links...

I'd never eared about wikipedia before.

The mosquee I am building is inspired by the blue mosquee of Istambul, but I
take also elements from the Yeni mosquee and other ones I visited.

I already split the code into several files, and created some logical
switches to tune the quality and the complexity of the scene. So far I have
no problem with CSG or texture debugging.

But it is not the case with light. The last render took more than 2 days and
a half. I'll post it later with an other one which is currently rendering.

I hope that you'll be able to give me advices to accelerate that. If I
cannot accelerate, the final render will need more than 15 days.
