So here's my final result.  It's a reproduction of the MC Escher design by
the same name (http://www.mcescher.com/Gallery/back-bmp/LW390.jpg).  Used
it to better understand isosurfaces.  I'm fairly happy with it so I'll file
it away unless some really good ideas come up.

Rendered via 2 processes on a dual 866MHz P3 machine w/ 1.2gig of RAM in
~44.8hrs, unoptimised code.
