Due to macro parameter problems I've temporarily abandoned doing space
battle animations for still images (but still spaceships, I'm afraid). So,
here is one based on scattering media. I was very impressed with how simple
this was to get working - it's just the ship object and one light_source
together with atmospheric media (using Mie murky scattering). The purple
cast is coming from the light's colour, the scattering medium itself is
grey. Ideally I'd have liked the shadows cast "off-ship" to be both
stronger and less sharp (perhaps I will try an area light) but the bit of
shadow crossing the ship itself is just what I wanted. There is a larger
