Another crazy ambient image, this time using a wibbly isosurface, with
fogging and focal blur to try to give some scale and distance to the scene,
which is always a problem with these things. Don't know what it's supposed
to be, except that it's supposed to be wobbly and cool. ;) Sorry I can't
be bothered tracing it bigger than this for the time being, I need the PC
time for other things at the moment. This already took 5 1/2 hours.

Would make an excellent wallpaper :)

Looks like a version of MCEscher's Cubic Space Division after too much
happy juice ;) Others have done a POV-Ray copy and my latest version
is here <shameless plug>:

Google images should show many versions.

Alf, that's the best computer-generateed version of it I've seen. You
got the angle and the dimensions correct, reproducing what I consider
the most important feature of Escher's work, the hexagon of empty space
just above the center. Too many others just seem to say, "well, I got
the boxes and the rectangular tubes, just like Escher, see?" Escher was
clearly emphasizing, as usual, the duality of object/space, contrasting
the hexagonal cross-sectional shape of the cubes with that of the empty
space. (Or so I've always thought.)

That image is cool Alf - I wasn't aware of the Escher print then I made
mine, but I can see the similarity.

I'll second that. Apart from the right perspective, etc., it simply got
this typical look Escher's drawings got, i.e. it looks like you actually
drew (is that the correct past of "to draw"?) it by hand.
Nice job!

Thank you Florian.

All based on a very old rounded_box macro of mine, using white for
some of the rounded edges and a granite pattern for the rest.

Looks OK to me.

Thanks

Considering that MCE used pen and paper, his accuracy was remarkable
but I found it difficult to duplicate exactly. I assumed he was unable
to avoid errors.

I don't understand all his work but I like the symetry here, and the
illusions and visual puns in others.
