I have been working on the inside. Along with other little details.
I had some sudgestions passed onto me already that I will look into. Some
from Chris Holtorf.
Beyond his idea I will be adding seat and pilot. Control stick. Hatch hings.
Landing skids. The red covers will be able to move out to expose the rocket
launchers.

Nice... that made me realize that my modeling skills suck so much...
Can such nice models be (comfrtable) created in i.e. wings?

Hi,
have a look at jpatch, a nice modeller for spline-based, "rounded" objects:

Runs on Win/Linux/MacOsX, and is one of those java-programs that let me
forget that I did not like java for a long period.

Hi,
I really like them.
Will be great to see them in an animation :)

Nice. I'm not so crazy about the darkened bevels, mostly because I can't see
that they're beveled anymore.
I think it's a little *too* smooth. What I mean is that I can tell you
modelled it at a high resolution and then just smoothed it a lot. I'd like
to see more detail in the shape.

I have used wings and from what I have seen I would say yes wings can do
this. I would need to learn more about using it. I usually gravitate to what
I know best. I started using lightwave at version 1.0 With that I also began
playing with povray at around V2 I think. 1992. What ever version was
available then.
Blender looks like it can do some real detailed modeling. Another is
truespace 3.2. I used it for a long time. it is free. It takes a bit to get
a modal into povray though. truespace only outputs in studio max ASCII
format.
Wings or truespace would be the easiest to learn.
