Here's a image I did a while ago. I was actually looking at making easy
wakes and ripples around objects without major modelling. (I just found the
folder I did these experiments in, so you'll probably see some clearer
..mpg's soon.) You can, unfortunately, barely see the wake beneath the
pendulum in this night scene, however. Still, the moon isn't all that bad
(See 'Dusk'). It is an image map, but that is'nt what makes it look as good
as it does, I think. Just by itself, it would look very much like a
moon-like sphere floating in the ocaen -- the same size/shape issues
discussed in 'Dusk.' With a high ambient and diffuse (.9 and .95, I think)
it looks much more disk-like. A crescent would be more tricky this way, but
you get the idea.

Hmm it looks like a sphere that is swimming in the water. Perhaps use a 
biiiig sphere instead of plane for water surface.
