hi there,
some improvements have been made:
- two area lights instead of my pathetic attemps with 30 individual
light_source's
- sheet of paper has been added
- texture of wood has been rotated by 5 degrees
things that need work:
- the floor tiles are to small
- the white box needs a "function"
- render it with focal blur
- turbulence in the wood (need to check the manual for that :-))
comments are appreciated as always.
render time: 29 minutes on a 500 mhz CPU

Can you add some thickness to the paper? I think it needs at least a teeny
bit of shadow to suggest that it is has some relationship with the floor.
Can't put my finger on it exactly.

i see what you mean, but maybe the effect will be better if i wrinkle the
paper a bit, but this will mean i need to make an HF, or mesh. Both of these
techniques are very unfamilliar to me, so that will take a while.

It's looking good! :)
FWIW, I would rotate the wood pattern a few degrees around the axis of the
sharpener (the same axis a pencil would align with) to fix the sides up
with
a proper grain, and add a little (or little more...) turbulence... and maybe
a little shine, since they'd probably be polyurethaned or otherwise
finished.
But maybe that's just me...
