today i started with this spacebug for an animation project. i'm quiet happy
with the result as this is one of my first projects in povray. although it
is not finished yet.
you can see that there are some sharp edges in the flames. they are made of
simple spheres with media.
does someone know how i can get rid of those edges? it doesn't look natural
now.

I'm not sure if flames like those are possible. The yellow, orange and red
colors in flames are caused by hot particles that glow. And the blue light
in flames is the light that is caused by the chemical reaction that we call
"fire". A perfect flame is blue. So if the inside of the flames are red,
were are the particles going more in the "back" of the flame? if they stay
(which should be the case in a hot, blue flame) they'll have to continue
glowing. And if they cool down they're supposed to become dark but still be
visible.
What kind of media did you use inside those spheres? Any density variation?

I'm not positive, but that looks to me like a max_trace_level problem -
check the documentation.

Maybe
- use a bigger container media
- use better (more smooth ?) density function

this was indeed the problem, thank you
however i still don't have good boosters.
It's hard to mix the colors in a good looking way. today i played with madia
for hours and still didn't get any result that satisfy me.
Personaly, i love the boosters from Tek,
http://news.povray.org/povray.binaries.images/30807/
they are clear and colors are well seperated. I'm not asking for code, just
for hints on how i can use media in a good way.
you can find a newer version of my bug here:

thx for all the reply's
