Is it better ? Is it less flat ?

Wow, the difference is really striking. Add some (not too much) focal blur, and
you've got yourself a photo.. well, near enough!

Also on my (uncalibrated) Dell 24" LCD monitor the brightness seems perfectly
balanced for the contrast.

I don't suppose you'd like to do a 1920x1200 version? That would look fantastic
as a background.

You're right. I'm too lazy and too impatient. Kokeshis took 17 hours 43 
minutes 37 seconds in 4 pieces (4 times)

It was what i wanted to do.
I tried a backlit but in my opinion it's too light because the bonsai 
is in a corner too dark and it doesn't receive any directly light and i 
had to push the brightness of the radiosity.

Well, if you're willing to share the source I have a quad-core that I can let it
run on with unbounded patience, at any resolution that POV can handle :)
