Attached image was achived with iso_csg library. Isosurface use function with
following syntax:

#local f_P=IC_Intersection2 (
 IC_Threshold( IC_Char("P") , .4 ) ,
 IC_Threshold(function{pattern{wood turbulence.1+3*x scale.1+3*x scale 2}},.5)
);

Threshold around character was used to move surface of letter outside of
shape. Rounded version of iso_csg was used so edges after threshold are
rounded. Threshold around pattern was used to show value of pattern used as
surface. Simple red pigment used. Calculated max_gradient was 1026.521 but 884
used - so don't ask me about render time :-)

Any comments ?

That would make a wicked sign over a saloon. This also reminds me of the
cheap seafood restaurants around the gulf of Mexico.

Don't know exactly what you were shooting for here, but it has a good
cartoonish look to it (well defined lines etc).

It's free experiment around my iso_chars include file.
