Hi all,

This is my first image post. I'm wrapping up a palm tree macro that I
have been working on and would like some feedback.

Thanks!

Kyle

Stefan,

Thanks for the compliment! I have some more work to do on the macro
and will release the source when I'm done.

Thanks again,

Kyle

IMO the trunk is not right. You should see the scars of the fallen leaves,
even the base of the leaves as you go higher up. Also the color is to grey I
believe.

Otherwise :-) the leaves are very good!!

Thomas:

Thanks for the feedback.

There is some scarring on the trunk, in the form of rings where the
fronds would have fallen off, however, it is not very predominant.
You can see it very lightly at the lowest part of the trunk in the
image. I do need to work on the texture some more though and make
this more predominant.

The gray color is ok for certain types of palms. I live in Florida
and the color of palm trunks here varies widely, from light gray
trunks to dark gray trunks to dark green trunks to brown trunks. Some
contain a combination of all of these colors.

The leftover pieces of the fallen off fronds is a whole other issue.
These vary widely as well, from "V" shapes that wrap the trunk to
pointed ones. Also, the tips of the leftover pieces may be cut
straight and pointing in an upward direction (when the palm is
maintained by someone) or they may be curved downward and somewhat
frayed (when they naturally fall off). They may also be just at the
top of the tree, right under the green fronds, with the rest of the
trunk bare, or they may go down the trunk quite a bit, sometimes all
the way to the base.

Thank you for the compliment on the leaves.

I was hoping to see if others show some interest in this macro. I
have used it for an image that I was working on and was considering
developing it further. For now, its on the back burner. There is
still quite a bit of work for me to do to consider it complete, as
noted above.

Thanks again,

Kyle

Thanks for your explanations, Kyle. Very useful. I take back my comment
about the trunk's color: I seem to have an * ideal* image in my mind of what
it would look like. Not having palms at hand here, though.... :-)
I think your macro would be very interesting. Have had a look at the palm
tree provided by Gena Obukhov in his POV-Tree java utility? That probably is
another, different, type.

Keep up the good work! (even on the backburner!)

Thomas
