Nice composition, but the finish ambient is far too high for my tastes.

Nice pic!

But I think the presents are too perfectly lined up.

You must give them a slight random translation/rotation to get a more real
look.

Best regards.

there is still room for improvement here:

some of the presents were rotated in this image but i'am still
playing with that. this is alot better that my previous present
distribution. my attempt at having a fire in the fireplace was so bad
that I abandoned that feature for now. the tree is made from over 175
thousand spheres and cones. I want to make a mesh based tree instead.
this is still a work in progress in my opinion.

considering render time, and that the power supply in my pc died the
following day it will have to wait to be rerendered. this is the best
i will be able to do before christmas day :)

Time For Parse: 0 hours 18 minutes 15.0 seconds (1095 seconds)
Time For Trace: 103 hours 49 minutes 28.0 seconds (373712 seconds)
Total Time: 104 hours 6 minutes 47.0 seconds (374807 seconds)

on amd k6-2 400mhz 256mb ram.

if anyone sees Santa I would like an athlon xp 2600+ for christmas :)

any other comments?

Richard

How did you make the tree? I really like it. Did you use #while loops, 3-D
IFS, ? ?

Send him e-mail. But I must warn you, he has his "naughty" and "nice"
filters already in place :-)

Presents are never arranged that neatly around here...

Nice start. Lighting seems off though. It looks like you have a high
ambient value for the scene...there is barely any shading on any of the
objects, especially on the tree pot and presents. The reflective
wrappings are a bit too mirror-like...try adding a slight wrinkles
normal. Move the presents around a bit and fix the lighting, and it
would look much better. The tree looks odd...I guess the gray is
supposed to be artificial snow, but maybe make it more unevenly covered,
and the bark looks too light. Also, there are some stone wall macros and
scenes around that you might find useful for the fireplace. And if you
could get the tree to taper more naturally instead of being a perfect
cone, it would look much better. And some randomness to the tinsel
arrangement...
