Yet another rework of a LOTW scene.
Also the first serious render i did on my new computer, less than two
days for ~7000x5000.
Some post processing (removal of cloud artefacts, filtering and scaling).

I am not yet satisfied with the background mountains (they don't seem
very realistic) so i consider changing them.

Wow, you certainly have got the lighting working well, the foreground looks
very photo-realistic. The plants look great, are they SDL or mesh?

Yes, the mountains on the left side look a little too "CG", but maybe you
get them like that IRL?
Also, I think the clouds maybe look a bit too "artistic", I can't really put
my finger on it, but it looks more like a very good painting than a photo.
Maybe it's because there aren't any clouds right in the distance on the
horizon? I don't know, I live in England, we rarely get that much blue in
the sky ;-)

The foreground is indeed very photorealistic! I don't know about the
mountains but they look wrong to me also. Should they get more light or
what? Now it looks like they are being lit with a reflector or something.

From the top of the bush, down it looks like a photo. The *only*
giveaway is the clouds. The mountains look a bit too soft for their
environment. I'm still awestruck. If it werent for the problem areas you
pointed out, I'd be hard-pressed to guess this was CG.

both (SDL generated mesh).

They need to be rougher in the steep parts.

The clouds cast quite some shadow on the mountains. Apart from that the
ground texture is of course fairly dark (as you can see in the foreground).
I don't think the texture is the problem, it's the geometry that needs
to be improved.

agree that the mountains on the left are at issue.
Yeah, I think the issue here is that they are very pointy (i.e. young,
geologically speaking) and yet very smooth (high erosion) The landscape
looks fairly dry, so unless you attest to high and constant winds (over a
disproportionate amount of time) they are just too smooth. They want cracks
and boulders and stuff. Now, how to do that? I have no clue. But that's why
you're called Christoph, and when I'm called anything, I only get one lousy
letter ;)

What's wrong with the clouds? Surely they are not perfect but i don't
really see something wrong in particular about them. When i look out of
the window right now i see clouds quite similar in coloring - more dense
than in the image though.
Maybe they should be more and smaller - they are really quite large
compared to the terrain.

This is doubtlessly the best landscape I have ever seen done with POV.
Truly excellent work - I love the high contrast and sharpness of the
foreground.
The clouds seem just fine to me. Like you said, the only weakness, if I
were pressed to find a weakness, would be the background mountains. They
look too much like a height_field, IMHO.
