This is my excuse for poving these days.. It's a double A-arm
suspension I'm supposed to investigate for fatigue failure for
different road conditions. I spent most of the time converting the FE
mesh to pov mesh and then smoothing individual surfaces with Warp's
mesh smoothing program.

Does anyone have some tricks to get a better metallic texture? This
one is based on Jonathan's Fight Club texture but doesn't look half as
good. I use a box for surrounding with a gradient from white to blue
at the top. The lower arm is aluminium while the rest is steel, but I
use the same texture for everything at the moment.

For trying out metallics I usually use a sky_sphere for the surroundings,
just to have something for the reflections. Try playing around with the
brilliance, specular and metallic keywords a bit.

I've tried level tweaking too, but it looks more like steel than
aluminium.

JRG wrote a "new metals.inc" a few months ago. The textures were very
convinceing in his sample scenes (never tried them myself.) You might find
it by searching the newsgroups @ http://news.povray.org

Do you mean this article
<news://news.povray.org/3ad84390@news.povray.org>?

Meta-comment: It would be nice if people would provide more news-url's
and less http-url's. We are in news and not in web here, anyway, and
news-urls make work better for us reading our news with news readers and
not from web and equally good to the rest.
