A while back I mentioned that I was working on a new space object plugin.
I've now got to the point where I have a sample nebula to show off.
There's no background stars because I haven't written a starfield generator
yet. The foreground isn't quite up to the level that I'd like, but this is
a pretty good demonstration of what my nebula plugin is capable of.

This is quite impressive. Does the visibility of the various regions in the
nebula change if you add/remove/move novae? If so, this is DAMNED
impressive.
Eagerly awaiting a final (or even beta) release,
Deaken

Very nice, whats the rendertime for this?

Great stuff ! You know, such a still picture took lots and lots of hours to
make earlier ... it reminds me of the Amiga500 game "Project X".. It's not
more than 10 years ago.. Feels like yesterday to me.. But as others have
asked, what about the rendertime? No media, I hope.
Regards,
Hugo

No. The star flares are generated by a separate macro and have no effect
on the nebula cloud.

The nebula is just a four-layer texture mapped to a sphere. The stars are
a three-layer texture (one layer per star) mapped on another sphere. The
whole thing renders at 800x600 in about 40 seconds on my P3-866.
I've attached a new image which I made after adding some more features to
the plugin. This one took about 3 mins to render at 640x480 on my Celeron
400. Note that many of the color variations are independant of the main
nebula pattern--this adds considerably to the quality in closeup shots.

Nice look and excellent speed. If I ever get around to actually finishing a
scene, I may need something like this.
