3DCafe has a model that can be converted quite nicely to a smooth POV
mesh by Crossroads3D.

Put it underwater, with mermaids or something coming through it.
That way you can mess with an underwater surface being interrupted
by a vertical surface of some other fluid disturbance, on whose
other side is ...something else.  Oh yeah.  Have a hazy image
visible on the other side of the gate ;)
