Trying to update another old scene to take full advantage of the 3.8
gamma and lighting features. Needs more work.
This light cruiser was hit hard by those alien disruptor rays.
I hope to complete the update tomorrow. Still unsure about some colors.
At this stage the terrans are supposed to use a copper based alloy for
armor plates. But pink ships look weird.

In my favorite sci-fi universe the terrans had ships like this cruiser
up to 2,500 meters in diameter. My dream is to picture a duel of two of
them as it was described in one of the novels.
The cruiser pictured is supposed to be 150 or 200m in diameter. I
haven't fully made up my mind on that yet.

Oh! lol! I can understand now the smart move to Plug-and-Play.
[pink is offensive to alien eyes]

That looks suspiciously like the "Doc" Smith universe....

Copper alloys are mostly bronze and brass. Those are not pink, but brown
and golden yellow.
Take a look at metals.inc for the various bronze and brass textures.
Just make sure that you set the ambient of those textures to zero.

Perry Rhodan actually. Or maybe ZBV, the martians there liked spherical
ships too, but the ZBV author was part of the PR team as well.

And another scene updated to the new gamma system. That really makes a
difference and allows for a more natural look.
green, if you are reading this - the stars in this scene are actually
those "pixie stars" that I mentioned in the other message. No bitmaps
used here, it's 100% pure PovRay.

thank you.
context and trivia; i recently revived my interest in lens flare and
diffraction spikes. i saw that gimp has a filter for it, 'sparkles', which
works ok. sorta. i investigated writing gimp filters but they are c-language,
which i do not know. still, i downloaded the source and looked at it. the
plug-in is
...gimp-2.10.22\plug-ins\common\sparkle.c
wherein it states
/* Sparkle --- image filter plug-in for GIMP
* Copyright (C) 1996 by John Beale; ported to Gimp by Michael J. Hammel;
john beale will of course be familiar with many povray users as an important,
long-ago contributor.

I love the details of main ship, through its openings and the kind of wrecked
scar in the sphere above. The only thing I'm not that fond of is the green gaz
cloud, it looks like it's somewhat screen space mapped or maybe too abruptly
delimited. The scene looks like a looot of work ! great !

Thanks! Also thanks for the feedback on the gas clouds. I'll test some
other colors. The green clouds are the only green thing in the whole
scene. Guess that is what disturbs the eye.
