Hi(gh)!
Having fixed my technical problems (almost), I continue with producing
vistas of Georgia... the first image shows the view across Mtkvari river
(where the capital Tbilisi would be built in a later version and in
collaboration with Giorgi Partskhaladze) from a hill southwest of Tbilisi.
The second image is a view from the eastern edge of the tile westward,
at a camera height of 20,000 metres above sea level. There obviously
still are some artifacts (black areas), I'm not sure whether they might
be just shadows...
And yet another issue: while generating the mesh2 with taking the
Earth's flattening already into account when calculating the vertices
did (strangely!) result in empty scenes, I rather simply compressed the
whole union of Earth sphere, ocean sphere and mesh2 by the flattening
factor along the y axis - which geometrically is not correct! And of
course, as the trace vector for the camera placement is tested against
the undistorted mesh2, camera locations in the rendered scene are also
not really precise... perhaps I still better go with a non-flattened Earth!
See you in Khyberspace!
