As all I learned about the Mayas so far, they sacrificed their enemies.
May be Tikal vs. Calakmul. They raided each other and sacrificed the
captured soldiers and rulers but I never learned about the sacrifice of
virgins. The Mayas were cruel people for sure, but please give proof to
your statement.

It seems that they also sacrificed volunteers. It looks like it could be
an honour to give one's life to the gods, in the most literal sense you
can think of.

Not too different from our "civilization": the machine demands a
sacrifice (Colosseum), so we feed the Sacred Automobile with child meat
on a regular basis! As if they needed it to run...

Hello Dick,
thanks a lot for this post. I was aware that the Maya were cruel to
their enemies from a lot of TV-Documentations That they sacrificed
children is a new intelligence to me. One ever learns...

Hello Yadgar,
I have some difficulties in understanding your post. I cannot see a
connection between the Roman Colosseum and automobiles. The only
personal connection I have is that I passed the Colosseum by riding an
atac-Bus this year to reach the St. Sebastian catacombs at Rome. If I
could afford it, which is not the case, I would really like to move to
Rome, the most fascinating city I ever visited.

It's not about the Colosseum in Rome, but the same-named progressive
rock band... on their 1969 album "Valentyne Suite" one title is "The

Yes, indeed... I visited Rome 30 years ago, and I surely would do so
again - but this time in summer, not in early March!
