Nice start, and happy Christmas.

Better but still not perfect. The control of the leaf orientation is
tricky especially were there are sudden jumps in the height_field. For
trace() I use a more basic/smooth height_field and calculate the
orientation from two points but still the transformations are not equal
for all leaves.

Another variation (better?).

That's looking really good, Thomas.

I think that having some of the leaves partially covered in water or sand adds a
degree of realism, especially since the tire tracks imply disturbed ground.

Have you thought about placing your leaves like a tripod, using a 3-point
orientation method? That might help get them to lay correctly.

For the few leaves that still intersect with the ground, it looks
somewhat like there are holes/breakages in them, whitch is normal and
add some credibility.

Thank you indeed.

Yes, that was also my judgement :-)

Out of laziness I must confess I did not use three point, only two and I
agree that I should do that. In addition to a few other things that is
going to be my next step.

Indeed. I am not too concerned about them presently. Still, I shall seek
some improvements.

Now, with a couple of additions, the meaning of the scene completely
changes.

Clever idea & neatly done! I'll have to let my daughter know her puddle
snapshot has led to another Pov-Ray image. :-)
