Well... to take care of something that drives *me* nuts anyway:

The display now shows a green box where the render is in progress.

There are some issues with this regarding mosaic preview and radiosity 
pretraces, and I haven't quite figured out how best to handle those yet, 
hence the dashed grid (which is where a black rectangle is drawn over 
the remnant green rectangles when the block is finished), so it may be 
something that shows only on the final render pass.
The only idea I can come up with would be for the display to keep a copy 
of the display area and restore that upon receiving a block complete for 
empty or partial blocks.
