I was struggling with what to do with these gargoyles until Thomas' 
recent post got me going on the courtyard idea. There's still some work 
to do but (in the meantime) I was exploring different views and I 
thought this one was worth a beauty run and posting the results.

thanks ... the column capitals and gargoyles are models ... the gargoyle 
was in ply format and i used ply2pov tools that Le_Forgeron posted some 
time ago to convert it  ...to mesh2. the center part of the columns and 
the rest of the building elements are pov csg

Thanks ... I'm thinking of opening up the back of the alcove to try 
back-lighting and media

That's good because the Centre part of the columns look too thin for 
their base, to me.
But as a whole a very nice image and textures. :-)

Plenty of things to do with gargoyles the problem is they all involve lots of
time consuming modelling. This is good and the columns are pretty good CSG as
well, a good job with the normals, I was trying to workout if it was just
normals or some isosurfaces in there?

Absolutely. The lighting is just right. An alternative could be a light 
from a fire: variations of light intensity across the scene.
