I just stumbled across the fact that glows can be used as lighting in radiosity-only
scenes!
In the attatched image, there are no light sources.. just glows (approx 120 in each
'string').
It does take quite a long time to render (approx 1 hour for this image on a 1Ghz
Athlon).

NOTE: I have post-processed this image to enhance the contrast, as glows can make the
whole
image appear washed out if they're too bright.

Comments welcome.

All the best,

Andy Cocker

What kind of glows? media or something that megapov offers?

I think he means Megapov's artificial glow, and since it's only a fake
effect, it's something special that it even has an effect on radiosity.

Nice, i have made some experiments with glows and radiosity when they were
first introduced in megapov:

To avoid brightening the whole scene too much you should modify
'fade_power'.

Thanks, I shall try that.

Yes, exactly. It was a surprise to me that it worked, but has great potential I think.
You
could easily simulate the 'over-exposed' glare from a window, for example.

Would it not be preferable to face the glows in the direction of the
"light", run the scene and save the radiosity files, and then run the
scene with the glows oriented towards the camera using the saved
radiosity?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'face the glows'. I don't think they work like that...
not like
textured discs if that's what you mean, but hey... I've been wrong before.

IIRC Megapov glows are textured spheres. An orient keyword in the next
glow patch might increase the quality of these types of scenes.
