You are improving this but I think aside from the gap on the inner tiles
something also needs to be done where the outer tiles meet the step/base of the
pilars as it looks like this was built on top of the tiles. I think there needs
to be a small gap and a bit of grout.

The gap /is/ there, as the tiles do not reach the border and are
bevelled there. So, it all is an illusion :-)
