Playing with povray prism object & its bezier_spline option. Image is
one prism, 24 spheres roughly at the start and end of each segment of
the bezier spline in the point list, a plane and 4 lights arranged for
the shadows created.

I like it.
It looks very Art Nouveau, to me. And your textures are just right.

nice design! I didn't know you could have overlapping parts
in the prism geometry ... are these treated as "outside"?

Yup.
The algorithm behind it is actually pretty simple: To test whether point
X is inside the prism, a line is drawn "outward"; if that line crosses
the prism's outline an odd number of times the point is considered
inside, otherwise it is outside.

Nice. It looks like a cross between a Buddhist(?) mandala and Art Nouveau. Are
the somewhat darker lines actually shadows? They lend a great deal to the
beautiful graphic nature of the render.

Thanks everyone for the comments.
Kenneth, Yes, the somewhat darker lines are shadows. Attached is another
image of a single prism, 4 lights and a plane where most of the end
effect comes from shadows. Both in the strictly darker shadows on the
plane of the same color and in shadows of a different color on the prism
by setting the ambient color of the prism to a red.

Wonderful stuff! I love those colors.
