After 10 years I figured they needed a second chance.
Changed photon_count from 29,000 to 1,000,000,000
Changed res from 800 x 600 to 1920 x 1200
3 px gaussian blur, scaled 50%
The original took 68 hours, this time it took 1h 47m

Nice stones. Can you give us the original picture you are referring to? So one
can compare them. I can only find a similar picture in the thread "Lucy in the
Sky with Diamonds" by st from 2003. There neither the stones nor the caustics
were colored.
What is Gaussian blur? GIMP? Why is this necessary?

Hi Michael,
Sorry for responding this late but RL got in the way.
Gaussian blur is a blurring method to cover up very sharp lines
GIMP Gnu Image Manipulation Program (Image editor for Linux)
