Subject: Early Earth: Pre Banded Iron Formation

I cannot deny my training :-)
This is a view of Earth about 3.0 to 2.5 billion years ago. A very
different place indeed. No continents to speak of, only volcanic
islands; oceans with huge quantities of dissolved iron (greenish tint);
atmosphere without oxygen and lots of methane and othe toxic gases
(reddish tint); a Moon which is closer than today (huge tides); days a
bit longer than today by a couple of hours.
A most significant change will come at about 2.4 billion years ago: the
Great Oxygenation Event. That will be my next scene in this series.

The direction of the light on the moon does not match the apparent position of
the sun.
Or is that artistic license?

Weren't they a bit shorter, with the Earth spinning faster back then?

Neither. It is an effect of the sun on the type 3 media. There is only
one light source.

For the sake of comparison: this image uses scattering type 5 with
eccentricity 0.8 and a bit lower scattering colour.
Personally, I prefer the first image.
