Hello,
I've released a new version of Luminous Bloom today, a utility for
casting glare from the bright regions in your images. You get get it here:
http://news.povray.org/povray.binaries.scene-files/thread/%3C4c0ebe6b%40news.povray.org%3E/
New in this version:
* completely rewritten core routines
* different effects via point sets
* can handle up to 65536 points
* a file for writing your own custom point sets is included
* a scene for viewing different point sets is also included
* it's roughly 50% faster
I changed the whole thing to work based on the principle presented by
Tek in his thread "Lens flare in scene."* It was optimized by using a
suggestion made by Alain in the same thread.
The attached image shows the star burst effect in action. The seven
effects included in the zip file are shown at the bottom. The banding in
violet sky is a jpeg artifact, it wasn't my fault ;)
Happy ray tracing!
Sam

Thanks! I almost didn't include support for higher-count point sets, but
in the end it was my math and not a bug with POV-Ray that was the problem :/

No problem Thomas! It was a fun project and I feel much better about
this version.
Hey, have you run into any problems with it? Dave Blandston was getting
an "invalid or corrupted" error for some reason. It sounded like a zip
archive thing, but I can't be sure.

No such problem on my side.
Probably a bad download. Clear your cache and try again, or use some
other browser.

No, it works just fine. One thing I have to mention though, is that when
using POV 3.7, the assumed_gamma should be commented out of the
global_settings{}. Not only does it give a parse error, it also results in a
*wrong* rendered image as gamma correction is then assumed to be off.

Yeah, I was using it to give my scenes deeper colors, but it seems the
final output is given an assumed_gamma of 1.0 anyway. I'll just try to
use filters around the camera in future scenes instead.

A bit late, but...
Could you send us the source of the wonderful image you have posted... ?
if, of course, is done in pov. ;-)
