Oh yes, they are! I wish that I (why only I? Such a project cries for 
collaboration!) could advance far enough with PoVSolar to implement such

These are real images?!  They look like computer art. Thanks for the link, I
hadn't seen such hi-rez orbiter photos of the Martian surface before.  Mars
continues to be a fascinating place!!

Pfffttt!  So someone built a spaceship, sent it 50 million miles away 
and sent back high-resolution color photos?  Big deal.

Now if they'd done this in POV, that would be inspirational!

Seriously, I never fail to be amazed at the variety of geography to be 
found on Mars.  I love to collect these kinds of photos and have several
hundred megs of NASA photos.

They look like computer art to me too, but I think their rendered 
appearance is due to the high resolution and false coloring.

Inspiring images, to be sure :)

Yes mars is fascinating .... I'm an Aries so mars has held a special 
curiousity for me. Neat to imagine that maybe we could all be Martians! You 
know there are some VERY large craters there .... an asteriod strike then 
it's not very far to Earth (as the asteriod flys).

True, they seems to be generated by an imaging fusion technique:

The false coloring, like in microscopy, is fascinating.
