Lets look at the name:
povray.binaries.images
My first guess would be ... images rendered by POVRay.

This isn't necessarily a stupid question, particularly for those using the
web-based newsgroup (and especially the younger crowd) who may not be familiar
with old-style newsgroups and their naming policies.
Typically binaries newsgroups are for posts with attached (or old-style in-line
embedded) files. In this case it would be an image file (.bmp, .png, .jpg,
etc, preferably .jpg for size).
You may also note that, for example, scene-files has two groups:
povray.binaries.scene-files
povray.text.scene-files
the binaries NG would imply and attached file (.zip, .pov, .inc, etc), whereas
for the text NG, the scene file is just included in the post text.

That's surely the most curious question I've seen asked here... :)
Seriously now, please go to the povray site and start here:
http://povray.org/documentation/view/3.6.1/3/
I will not say anything more, except for a warning: be aware that it is
highly addictive!
Regards...

Out of curiosity: How did you happen to come across this newsgroup in
the first place, if not through something related to POV-Ray?
