The trees look a bit... flat.

That's probably because they are still place holders for the definite
trees. They may also have to much ambient.

Oh yes! Like Alain says, they are just copies of one placeholder, not even
rotated randomly. Will be corrected later.

No. No ambient present at all. Overall, I only increased the luminosity of
the sun. However, the tree textures are too light. Like you say: place
holders.

If you rotate them so that they face the camera, they will act as
billboard sprites and look a lot better. :)

???

If I understand Boullee's design correctly, the base *is* cylindrical - or isn't
it? He just seems to have chosen a clever shape for the "sideburns" to
complement the hemispherical top.

My understanding is different, from viewing the way the shadows fall on the
wall, the apparent flaring form of the "sideburns" which is not so from the

design of the building.

In any case, I am now also adding my own details, trying to keep the overal
spirit. :-)

Sorry, I explained badly. The very basic trees consist of a conical
bicubic_patch object and a cylinder. No billboards. The flatness comes from
the single colour textures.

In order to show in what direction, away from the original, the cenotaph is
going.

Nice project, but way too much dust or fog in the atmosphere, all colors are
washed out.
