Hey Thomas, I like this idea. I get the feeling that although it may
look natural at first, the landscape here might actually be ruins of
some ancient structure. Or perhaps the rock matrix has cubic fracture
planes. At any rate, I like this sort of thing :)

Thank you, and very good Sam :-) These are indeed suposed to be ruins of
ancient structures blending with the surrounding landscape. I made use of
some presets in the GeoControl landscape program
http://www.geocontrol2.com/e_index.htm to achieve this.

Thank you Stephen. Yes it looks like a painting, perhaps because the image
was built in two passes: one .hdr render for the sky (Abe Madey's media
clouds) which was subsequently projected on a sphere in the second pass.

Why two passes? What is the difference between that and just putting the HDR
image directly onto a sphere?

Sorry. My faulty explanation. What I mean is that I first rendered a large
(3200x1600) image with a spherical camera with only the media sky (took
between 24 and 48 hours). That image was then projected on a sphere with the
landscape which rendered in about 15 minutes, radiosity included.

This sort of thing would make for a great dual-monitor background if it was
rendered 2560x1024. :-)

The NFL should go international. I'd pay to
see the Detroit Lions vs the Roman Catholics.

I'll put it down to having a bad cold and reading what I wanted to read :(
Your explanation was good but it got twisted in my mind.

Ah, too bad it's a commercial program. I was excited for a moment :(
