Render time, four hours and forty-two minutes. I then added some cheap 
luminous bloom in Gimp.

For those who have lives and haven't been following along :-) the image 
is inspired by the Systema Metropolis short story here:

Anyway, I've built more of a scene so that there's a little context to 
judge the object by. I've also decided that the texturing I had before 
was distracting, and wouldn't really be visible with the amount of glare 
in the scene. So I set the texture to {color rgb 1} and turned off 
ambient light.

Any reactions? :-)

If we were told to parse starting *after* the supplied String, then do 
what we need to do to indicate pilot error.

When I first saw the rays in front of the body, my first thought was "is 
it Gouraud shaded???"

Hmmm... I don't know. I think you should use some original texturing on G. 
gigas because it now appears as something unfinished. I think the texture 
will be visible on the legs in particular.

I like the glare, though. Early morning. Perhaps the light could be a bit 
more yellowish?

Good job, much better than the last one.  Now I know what I'm looking at, and
the trees give it perspective and scale.  Also, thanks for the link to the
story; before I had no idea what this was all about.

I was starting to go with the notion that the texturing wouldn't be 
visible with that level of glare.

 From a technical standpoint, turning on ambient made the trees look 
funny (the bark had one--flat--texture, and the leaves had another--also 
flat--texture). I think I need to add more lights instead, and tell 
Povray not to make those lights interact with the media.

I'm still thinking about it; if I do bring textures back, they need to 
be a lot more subtle than before, I think.

I'm with you on that--I'll have to fiddle some more.
