I'm in the process of doing a macro for the object collection to add labels
to objects. Here's a demo scene to show where I've got to so far with it.
Any feedback on this scene, questions about the macro or ideas for
additional features welcome.

Is that blurred reflection with micronormals? Needs more AA!

Useful idea.

Additional feature: Hmm... Maybe a partial peel-off, like old labels?
Otherwise it could remain the way it is, I wouldn't have any other ideas.

The blurred reflection would work better using

http://tag.povray.org/povQandT/languageQandT.html#blurredreflection

  (See eg. http://warp.povusers.org/pics/RubiksRevenge2.jpg )

Hi Chris, these produce some nice effects, such as the rounded corners.
Can you send to me or put the code out here?

Meanwhile I have been trying to refine the 'ink bottle' macros

I've emailed you a copy as is. It's about 800KB, so I'm hoping there aren't
email limits that block it. If you don't receive it, let me know.

Chris B.

Hi, Yes I think that looks better. Renders about 6 times slower though.

Chris B.

  Still looks grainy.

Yes. Do you know what settings were used for the surface in the Rubik's
Revenge scene?

The last image I posted used 8 BlurSamples. This one uses 40 and still looks
a little grainy, as well as increasing the render time from 3 minutes with
the original surface to 2hours 23 minutes.

Regards,
Chris B.

I've uploaded the Labeller macros onto the POV-Ray object collection. I used
an image generated with 50 BlurSamples for the main image in the end which
took a lot longer to render and still looks grainier than the Rubiks Revenge
image.

See: http://lib.povray.org/collection/labeller/chrisb%201.0/labeller.html

Chris B.
