Just working on some glowing buttons for a web page.

And since I have your attention, anyone seen any web pages where the entire
page (buttons, menus, background) has been generated in a ray tracer and
then combined with html? Not sure if it's a good idea or not.

For some reason, the glow effect doesn't seem quite "right". It feels
more like a motion blur, which probably isn't what you're trying to achieve.

Otherwise, this is great. Shiny! :-)

You know you've been raytracing too long when you know how to render a
truly photorealistic compact disc, and you're not going to tell anyone
(least of all a POV user ;) ).

Bad idea because it means heinous load times ... unless you've got
cable or are browsing the web from work.

Yes, that's right. The way the're implemented it really is like a motion
blur. Basically it's emitting media with a density of 1 at the object
surface, decreasing to 0 along the normal over a small distance. I'm still
trying to figure out how to do it properly without cheating.

You're probably right, although properly designed (using css I think?) you
would only have to download the header and sidebar images once.

I made alle the buttons and images on my band's website with povray
http://www.norequest.be/
I think it's a good idea ;-)
(There is an issue with explorer 7 but that has nothing to do with pov but
with dreamweaver. Need to resolve that, haven't found the exact reason yet
why ie7 doesn't display the tables well.
Judge for youself

If you reduce the # of colors and compress to gif or png it's ok. , you may
loose some of the glow effect due to the compression.

That marble looks really good, I think the gothic "roots" would look better
in gold than in green.
Having a button/web template page generator for povray would be a cool
thing.
