When rendering several views of a simple isosurface landscape (with 
hetero_mf being used as main function), a strange effect occured: 
shadows are cut by straight lines like indicated by the red arrows in 
the attached picture. I remember having read about this problem here 
several months before here, perhaps even in 2006, but I couldn't find 
the respective posting...

Is there a way to fix this?

do you have the double_illuminate keyword with your object?

I once had similar problems with some heightfields and could fix it using
double_illuminate

Looks like these lines are present in the geometry itself.
Maybe reposition the camera to check it out.

according to the shadows of the spheres the lightsource is relatively low.
so it looks quite normal to me. the straight lines seem to come from the
isosurface's function.
