Challanged by James S., here is a quick image I threw together with many
objects generated by not so many lines of code. It took 13 minutes to render
with area_lights and focal blur.

Beautiful. It's images like this that make me spend so much time here!

pretty cool. you should use the fractal idea in the random level
generator... that's what this scene looks like. a level from a video game.

Maybe it's just me... something looks "wrong" with that focal blur...

Very nice.

Is there something misaligned though? The main 'object' that the sphere
sits on has what appears to be a small step on the top surface (just
left and in front of the right middle protrusion). Same on the left face.

I don't see it repeated in the smaller versions

Perhaps it is deliberate but I think it might look better without this.

And yes - the focal blur looks a bit strange. How about moving the
focal point and aperture to sharpen up that foreground peak and blur the
background ever so slightly.

Those are actual steps. That large surface is actualy made up of several smaller
ones, and they don't all line up.

It can be there but to small to be visible...

Nice image, I like images like this with just a bit of colour and the metal
texture is good. The sphere looks a bit elongated on the y axis is that on
purpose?

Well spotted! It took *me* a while to figure it out at first.

That's possible. The thing is that the ratio between the cubes and their
"children" are sometimes close to the golden ratio, so with the right
alignment and random factors, you get edges that almost, but not quite, line
up.

Thanks!

Yes, and it's actually a superellipsoid.

Thanks! On the other hand, is that a good thing or a bad thing? ;)
