Inspired by Lightbeam's and Paul Bourke's works, I've resumed an old wip.
There is a lot to do, criticism and comments are welcome.

Looks like the teacup racing stream in the Forbidden City. :-)

I like it. Get all the boats pointing the same way, and animate it.

Hmmmmm, is it better to have your own private island or to be more connected
to the world?

Giving me the idea... why not make a 2-world trouchet? Like Escher's 3
worlds combining the underwater, the surface, and the aerial(as a
reflection on the surface)... You might be able to add bridges and
roads having a trouchet pattern too. And if the boats look more like
sailing in a normal direction, with grass a bit more realistic... I'd
buy it for my February wallpaper! =)

Good luck!

Hi Paolo,
so the original wasn't that easy? Hehe, make it "just a wallpaper
with no date" it's going to be easier to do that way! ;)

Though I'm looking forward to see all the additions you'll come up with! =)

Good luck!
   Simon
