You're right, but from a compositional point of view I can't make them much 
bigger or the ring much smaller without having to completely adjust the 
layout of the ship, so I think it must have sunk for some other reason :)

Incidentally I was the first one to use ridged_mf in pov-ray to model 
sea water. At that time I saw the last post of Dan Farmer in this forums.

Ok, that couldn't be otherwise. After posting this message I saw the p. 
general thread and there are a lot of post by D. Farmer. Nice to see old 
users dropping by.
