Hi All:
Here is a cushion modeled with Wings3D to learn autoUV. Works nice with
this simple object, but I should try now on something more complex in
shape, like a sofa.
BTW, while searching for fabrics pictures to use as image_map for the
UV texture, I found something much better: a fabrics simulation program!
It's called ArahWeave and the demo is fully functional for texturing
purposes (the author has confirmed to me that pictures created with the
program can be used freely). The best thing is that you get totally
straight fabrics with uniform lighting, and as big as you want. The bad
news (not for me) is that it only runs on Linux.
The two fabrics on the image are created with ArahWeave, using as input
patterns generated with POV-Ray. And yes, I had to learn the basics
about weaving before getting some realistic results with the program. ;).
Regards,

Nice! Shame the fabric simulation program can't be run under win :(

That's great. The pillow looks fantastic, but it's shadow looks a little
dark.

That looks great, I have found getting real looking fabric's to be one of
the most difficult textures to achieve. The results using ArahWeave look
about as good as (if not better than) anything else I have seen. Time to
brush up on my linux skills..

That's simply stunning. A beautiful, oh-so-real rendering.
Very nice weave pattern on the pillow, too! Looks quite
comfortable. Yes, it's too bad ArahWeave can't run
under Windows :-(

That's very good, Jaime!
One level of subdivision more perhaps for the cushion? It seems I still see
some mesh...
Great texture!
Now...who is going to port ArahWeave to Windows....??? :-)

There's a decent chance it could work on Cygwin :)

The only problem is the textures are "rendered" and have already a
shadowing on them, but it's not very noticeable and at least is very
uniform. Of course a procedural solution with POV-Ray would be better,
but it would require a lot of weaving knowledge and patience.

Yes, but it was just a test... :)

Sorry, but it's not open source, just a demo of a commercial program,
and the author seems not very inclined to ever port it to windows.

I was afraid that would be the answer... :-\
We'll have to develop our own!
