Here are a couple of images to illustrate the response I posted on
povray.general to a question on using object patterns as isosurfaces.
It's just a set of merged tubes with turbulence added to try to emulate the
style of the underground caverns from the laser scanned fly-through that was
posted in the animations newsgroup a few weeks back. The camera is looking
down the inside of one turbulent tube with various branches off it.
The smaller image took about half an hour to render with a max_gradient
setting of 200.
The other uses a max_gradient of 2000, but is only a partial render because
I gave up after 20 hours.

Nice ..and if you look closer to the floor ..
this looks like a closer view on a wave (ocean wave closer look) ..
and i think if you change the grey color for a blue color , you will get a
perfect water cavern ..
I think you should extend your texture to water ...cause it s close to
perfection ...

Some month ago I tried this technique with a text object
but the render was very slow. As in your cave scene there
were a lot gaps and after increasing the maximum gradient
I had to wait several minutes for just one line so I decided
to stop the experiment...
Your cave animation was a pleasure!

I can't lay claim to the cave animation, that was Tom Austin.
These images were inspired by his animation and were just my attempt to
emulate the sort of style of the laser scanned caves from his animation.

seen in caves has tended to look pitch black.
Plus one of the same object rendered directly rather than through an
Isosurface pattern.
The isosurface version took 1h 18min to render versus 4 second for the plain
one.

If the water looks black in a cavern, it's often due to dark surrounding and botton.
In fact,
underground water tend to be crystal clear and prety still: no waves nor ripples.
That's acording to
every photo I ever saw and my one spellunking experience. So, it's rgbt 1 fade_color
and relatively
long fade_distance, have ior of 4/3, variable fresnel reflection, some tight specular.
