I started this image more than a year ago but got
the photography bug and abandoned it. Recently
the photography paid off and I figured out how
to make my own light probes.

So I dug this out, finished it, and lit it with
my very own probe.

I'm not one to brag :-) but I think it turned out
quite well, firstly the composition (golden
rectangle subdivision), secondly I'm rather proud
of that tabletop texture, and thirdly the lighting
of course.

I'll post the textures to p.b.s-f if anyone asks.

Stunning

I like the whole image, every detail in it, specially the stain in the
background. it makes it so much more real.

One tiny iffy, I think the shadows could be a bit darker.

Nice image, espescially the table top texture (isosurface or just normals?).
 Is this lit using rad only?

If you have the whole scene available (including the HDRI, unless its the
one previously posted) I'd like to see how it turns out with the light
macro I've been working on for comparison.  I've been meaning to try a
scene comparison, but haven't had the time for setting up and running high
quality rad renders.

just normals, with normal on in the radiosity block, (actually
using Rad_Settings(Radiosity_IndoorHQ, true, false) from rad_def.inc)

The whole scene...hmm, I'd have to resolve some dependancies on some of my
personal "standard includes" before I could post it. I'm not adverse to
the idea though, so I'll give it a go. I'll put the textures up now
in any case.

And yes, it's the same probe I posted.

Thanks, the stain also sits on the fourth square of a "golden spiral":
Pot. full cup, empty cup, stain, in case you hadn't noticed :-)

Maybe, though in a white light it's white porcelain on a white wood,
but then my monitor's gamma is low, so maybe it looks a bit darker
to me.

That golden rectangle idea is intriguing. Somebody here uses the golden
ratio for pseudorandom placement of plants, etc.

The table surface looks very realistic to me. I'm scared of using radiosity
with normals on; on this 560MHz machine.

[FWIW, to add some quick pastry or bread to your tea party, look at a
slightly modified version of my sandstone surface & texture, without the
colour overlay].
