So, here it is. The final adjustments were as follows:
- a slight camera change
- no foam on a dry soap
- focal blur
- waterdrop adjusted to look less like slimey goo
- vortex made a tad smaller
I personally enjoyed making this image to express some thoughts, and was
very grateful for the various comments I got during the making (no matter if
just of technical nature, or of personal nature in regard to the reason for
the image). Thanks for all the feedback!
Regards,
Tim

Spectacular - the best raytraced water I've seen yet...

The water geometry looks very good but the basin seems somewhat dull. I
would love to see a sunlit version with some nice caustics...
BTW how much did this image increase your water consumption?

Well, that would kinda spoil the "story" of the image, but when I've got
some time, I might attempt it, just to show how strange the water looks with
photons. ;-)

Not much. Filled my sink only once to check the vortex-behaviour, the rest
was research via Google and various sites loaded with photos. :-)

Awesome outcome. Everything looks great.
There's something about the location of the light source that bothers me
though, as in the shadow of the water pipe. Where would the imagined "lamp"
be placed? But maybe that's because i often have very lit up when i visit
similar locations irl, and anyway, it's a final and it looks really good.
How on earth did you make that red shine around the drop with the heart? Is
it the focal blur? Or is it post processed?

Tim, that's just phenomenal. I can't add any useful comment; it's just
phenomenal.....

It's slightly to the left and behind the sink. In our bathroom we have a
light to the left and right with a small arm. The placement is a little off
though, to place the shadow somewhere interesting and to light the scene
properly. So no, it's not a 100% proper lighting placement. :-)

A sphere with emitting media using a spherical density statement. It's set
to a very low value, to just give a subtle glow. It's easy to overdo things,
subtle things are much more difficult because after sometime with the image
you're too used to it to tell that it might be a tad *too* subtle.

I see what you mena, but you did it very nice. I obviously have a lot to
learn.
Now, does this mean we can expect further advancement on the Chasm frontier?
;)
